We embarked on a study to investigate the impact of ubiquinol-10—an active form of coenzyme Q10—on patients suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Our research comprised two parts: an open-label study involving 20 patients and a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with 43 participants.
In the open-label segment, patients took 150 mg of ubiquinol-10 daily for eight weeks, and both the participants and physicians knew who was receiving the supplement. The results were promising, suggesting improvements in various symptoms of CFS.
Following this, in the randomized trial, participants were assigned to either ubiquinol-10 or a placebo for 12 weeks, with neither the patients nor the doctors aware of who received which treatment. Outcomes showed that those taking ubiquinol-10 experienced significant benefits, reinforcing the notion that this supplement can positively influence CFS symptoms.
Overall, this study suggests that adding ubiquinol-10 to a treatment plan could be a helpful strategy for improving the lives of those dealing with chronic fatigue syndrome.

CoQ10 Shows Heart Function Improvement
Isolated diastolic dysfunction of the myocardium and its response to CoQ10 treatment.
We investigated the effects of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) treatment on patients experiencing chronic fatigue syndrome and related symptoms. In a comprehensive study, 115 patients presented with fatigue, precordial pain, and arrhythmias, which are often precursors to heart failure. Among these individuals, those with chronic fatigue syndrome were evaluated alongside groups with hypertensive cardiovascular disease and mitral valve prolapse syndrome.
We recorded key health metrics, including blood pressure, CoQ10 blood levels, and echocardiographic measurements that assess both diastolic and systolic heart function. The participants were then given CoQ10 supplements, and we conducted follow-up evaluations to measure any changes.
The treatment resulted in promising enhancements across the board—eighty percent of hypertensive patients experienced lowered blood pressure, while all participants showed improved diastolic functioning. Moreover, more than half of the hypertensive group saw a reduction in myocardial thickness. However, while the results were favorable for various heart-related conditions, we noted that the information does not isolate the effects specifically for chronic fatigue syndrome, limiting our understanding of CoQ10’s isolated efficacy for this group.
Overall, the initial trial indicates that CoQ10 could potentially benefit heart function, which may help alleviate some symptoms associated with chronic fatigue syndrome, although more focused studies are needed to draw definitive conclusions for this specific condition.

After three months of taking this supplement, my condition has greatly improved, enabling me to train again and get better sleep. I've lost 8 kg and found it helpful for my chronic fatigue syndrome.
We examined the impact of coenzyme Q10, combined with alpha lipoic acid, on individuals suffering from chronic COVID syndrome, which features symptoms similar to chronic fatigue syndrome. The study involved 174 patients, who were divided into two groups.
One group received the combined treatment, while the other group did not receive any treatment at all. Our focus was primarily on how well the treatment reduced fatigue, measured using the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS).
The results were quite striking: a majority of those who received the treatment showed a significant reduction in fatigue compared to those who did not. In fact, over 53% of patients in the treatment group reported a complete response, whereas only a small fraction in the control group achieved similar results.
Overall, our findings indicate a positive effect of coenzyme Q10 and alpha lipoic acid on reducing chronic fatigue symptoms associated with chronic COVID. However, to validate these results further, we believe that a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial would be essential for confirming the effectiveness of this treatment approach.

Coenzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant. I ordered it for my mother as she faced chronic fatigue syndrome and liver issues. It promotes energy production and reduces fatigue.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), is a complex and debilitating condition characterized by profound fatigue that doesn’t improve with rest and worsens with physical or mental activity. This crippling fatigue is often accompanied by a variety of symptoms, including sleep disturbances, cognitive difficulties, muscle pain, and joint pain. Unlike typical tiredness, the fatigue experienced in CFS is long-lasting, and it can significantly hinder everyday activities and overall quality of life.
The precise cause of CFS remains unknown, but it is believed to be influenced by a combination of genetic, environmental, immunological, and psychological factors. Diagnosis primarily relies on a careful assessment of symptoms, as there are no definitive laboratory tests available. Treatment options focus on symptom management and may include lifestyle changes, physical therapy, medication for pain management, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Given the complexity and variability of the condition, individuals with CFS should consult healthcare professionals who specialize in this area to develop personalized management strategies.
Coenzyme Q10, often abbreviated as CoQ10, is a naturally occurring antioxidant that is found in the cells of the body. It plays a crucial role in the production of energy within mitochondria, which are the powerhouses of our cells. CoQ10 is important for maintaining cellular energy levels and overall health, as it assists in the conversion of food into energy. Additionally, it helps protect cells from oxidative damage, which is linked to various conditions such as heart disease and aging.
As a dietary supplement, CoQ10 is popular for its potential benefits, including promoting heart health, improving energy levels, and supporting cognitive function. It's particularly beneficial for individuals who are taking statin medications, as these drugs can lower natural CoQ10 levels in the body. While more research is needed to determine its efficacy fully, many users have reported positive experiences. If you’re considering adding CoQ10 to your supplement routine, it’s best to consult with a healthcare professional to determine the appropriate dosage and ensure it fits your health needs.
Based on user reviews, the time it takes to see results from taking Coenzyme Q10 for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome varies, but many users report noticeable improvements within one month. For example, one user highlighted feeling better after a month of use, noting deeper sleep and enhanced energy levels (Read Review). Other reviewers also mentioned that significant enhancements in their conditions were achieved after two to three months of consistent use, with some returning to normal daily activities and feeling rejuvenated (Read Review, Read Review).
Overall, users seem to agree that while some might feel initial benefits sooner, the best results usually come with regular use over several weeks to several months. It's commonly suggested that a commitment to daily intake could facilitate quicker improvements in energy levels and overall well-being, as seen in reviews where users expressed gratitude for the supplement's effects after a couple of months (Read Review). Therefore, if you're considering this supplement for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, patience and consistency appear to be key to experiencing the full benefits.
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) has shown mixed evidence when it comes to alleviating symptoms associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). While some studies suggest promising benefits, such as improved fatigue levels and overall quality of life, the research often involves combining CoQ10 with other treatments, making it hard to isolate its effects. For instance, a study found that patients taking 400 mg of CoQ10 daily experienced significant improvements in fatigue and quality of life compared to those who did not receive it [3]. On the other hand, a systematic review highlighted that while there were positive indicators, the evidence was not strong enough to confirm CoQ10’s isolated effectiveness for CFS [6].
Furthermore, patients taking CoQ10 in combination with other supplements, such as NADH and selenium, have reported notable improvements in fatigue levels, indicating that these combined approaches might offer more substantial results [4], [8]. However, adverse effects like nausea and insomnia have also been reported [1]. Overall, while CoQ10 shows some potential as a supplement for managing CFS symptoms, more rigorous and targeted research is needed to better define its benefits and establish definitive conclusions.
Users report a variety of significant improvements in symptoms associated with chronic fatigue syndrome after taking Coenzyme Q10. Many individuals have highlighted enhanced energy levels, with some experiencing a notable surge shortly after starting the supplement. For example, one user felt a significant energy boost even after the first capsule, despite the common understanding that it may take time for its effects to manifest (Read Review). Others experienced marked improvements in fatigue, with a user sharing that after two months, their energy levels rose and emotional well-being improved significantly, allowing them to return to work after a long absence (Read Review).
In addition to increased energy, reviews frequently mention improvements in mood, sleep quality, and overall daily functioning. For instance, one user noted that their feelings of fatigue vanished, while another reported enhanced sleep and mood stabilization after a month of use (Read Review). Similarly, many users find it beneficial for cognitive function and managing chronic fatigue-related symptoms, suggesting that CoQ10 can be a valuable addition to their health regimen. However, it's essential to remember that individual experiences can vary widely, and while many find relief, results may differ from person to person (Read Review).
Users have reported positive experiences when combining Coenzyme Q10 with other supplements to manage chronic fatigue syndrome. For instance, one user specifically noted improvements while taking CoQ10 alongside Omega and Resveratrol, mentioning enhanced energy and mood stabilization after a month of this combination (Read Review). Another user highlighted the effectiveness of CoQ10 in combination with carnitine and alpha-lipoic acid during a weight loss effort, stating that they felt more energetic and experienced improved skin condition (Read Review).
The consensus among users seems to suggest that CoQ10 can potentially complement other supplements well, further enhancing its benefits for combating fatigue. For those considering a broader approach to managing their symptoms, another user mentioned the effective pairing of CoQ10 with selenium and vitamin D as a strategy to alleviate chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms (Read Review). However, as with any supplement regimen, results may vary from person to person, and users are encouraged to consult with healthcare professionals before making significant changes to their supplement intake.
When it comes to managing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) with Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), research suggests that doses can vary, but some studies have identified effective ranges. For instance, a combination of 400 mg of CoQ10 with 200 µg of selenium over eight weeks demonstrated significant improvements in fatigue and quality of life for participants [3]. Another study involving 200 mg of CoQ10 alongside NADH reported notable reductions in fatigue and improvements in sleep quality [4].
However, the optimal dosing of CoQ10 for CFS remains somewhat unclear due to the variability in study designs and participant responses. While some individuals might respond positively to doses starting around 200 mg, it's important to consider that not all studies have consistently shown significant benefits with CoQ10 alone [6]. Therefore, individuals interested in using CoQ10 as a treatment should consult healthcare professionals to personalize their approach based on ongoing, comprehensive research related to their specific health needs.

CoQ10 and Selenium in CFS
Does Coenzyme Q10 Plus Selenium Supplementation Ameliorate Clinical Outcomes by Modulating Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Individuals with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?
We examined whether the combination of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and selenium could improve clinical outcomes for individuals suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). In our study, 27 patients took an oral supplement of 400 mg of CoQ10 and 200 μg of selenium daily for eight weeks. We focused on patient-reported changes in fatigue severity and quality of life while keeping an eye on several circulating biomarkers.
After this eight-week period, we observed significant improvements in fatigue and overall quality of life. Participants reported feeling better, which is always encouraging. In terms of oxidative stress, we noticed a boost in total antioxidant capacity and a reduction in harmful lipoperoxide levels, both suggesting a positive shift in the body’s oxidative balance. Interestingly, although inflammatory markers showed a decrease, some important biomarkers remained unchanged.
This exploration into long-term supplementation indicates that CoQ10 and selenium may work together beneficially, providing hope for those grappling with CFS. However, we should note that while improvements were there, the effects were not uniform across all measures. It provides a valuable foundation for further research in this area.

Coenzyme Q10's limited impact
Dietary and nutrition interventions for the therapeutic treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis: a systematic review.
We explored the potential impact of coenzyme Q10 on chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) through a systematic review of existing studies. The aim was to find out if this popular supplement could help improve symptoms such as fatigue and overall quality of life for those affected by CFS.
Seventeen studies met our criteria for inclusion, each investigating various dietary modifications and nutritional supplements. Among them, coenzyme Q10 was evaluated in conjunction with another supplement, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydride (NADH). While some improvements in fatigue were noted with this combined approach, we need to be clear that the evidence did not strongly support the isolated effectiveness of coenzyme Q10 alone for CFS symptoms.
Overall, we found insufficient evidence to confirm that coenzyme Q10, on its own or in combination, offers significant therapeutic benefits for patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. Hence, more targeted research focusing on CFS populations is needed to paint a clearer picture of how coenzyme Q10 and other nutritional interventions might fit into treatment strategies.

CoQ10 shows potential, needs more research
Dietary Supplementation for Fatigue Symptoms in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)-A Systematic Review.
We explored the role of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) in treating chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), a complex condition often marked by debilitating fatigue. Our analysis draws from several studies assessing various dietary supplements, including CoQ10, and we put a spotlight on its effects specifically related to fatigue.
Among the fourteen studies reviewed, some reported positive outcomes with CoQ10, especially when combined with other treatments. However, the variations in study designs and the presence of methodological issues, like small sample sizes, made it difficult to draw any concrete conclusions about its efficacy.
While inconsistent results surfaced regarding enhancements in energy levels, we also noted several adverse effects reported by participants, such as nausea and insomnia. Thus, while CoQ10 shows promise, we need more rigorous research to better understand its potential benefits for CFS.
